a Partial Denture
Removable partial denture is made to replace one or more teeth. Partial dentures are made up of one or more artificial teeth held in place by clasps that fit onto nearby natural teeth. You can take the partial denture out yourself, for cleaning and at night. A partial denture will prevent your natural teeth from shifting or drifting into the space left by the loss of a natural tooth. Removable partial dentures restore your natural appearance and greatly improve the ability to chew and speak clearly. Various Types of Removable Dentures at Our Ottawa Clinic
Acrylic Partial Denture
This type of denture is suitable for temporary use. It is made out of acrylic, sometimes having wire clasps for retention so the dentures stay in place.Cast Metal Partial Denture
This type of denture is sturdier than the acrylic partial denture. It is thinner, stronger and more durable. The best part is that it is adjustable should you lose more teeth in the future. You can simply add teeth to the frame without requiring a new denture.Valplast Partial Denture
Valplast partial denture is very thin, very flexible perfect to replace front, anterior teeth. It is most suitable to replace the front teeth and create a complete and aesthetic smile.Implant Supported Partial Denture
Partial denture implants are similar to the cast metal partial denture in terms of a built quality. The only difference is that the primary source of retention is from the dental implants, so there is no need for the clasps ( metal hook that wraps around the tooth).Testimonials

Frequently
Asked
Questions
Do I have to wear my partial denture all the time?
No, you don’t. In fact, we would not recommend it. Your denture should be removed daily so it can be cleaned, and the gums can have a break from supporting the dentures and be cleaned as well. Leaving your partial denture in all the time can reduce its lifespan, and speed up the degradation of the gums and bone structure underneath and around the partial denture.

Do partial dentures move when eating?
Partial dentures should not move and shift in your mouth while you eat. If they do, then there is something wrong with the fit. If this is the case, contact us right away to set up an appointment to have the dentures adjusted.

How do partial dentures stay in place?
Partial dentures are held in place using metal clasps which attach to the teeth surrounding the space that the dentures are meant to fill. There are also precision attachments available which give a stronger hold for the dentures to stay in place.

What kinds of partial dentures are available?
There are two main types of partial dentures that we offer:
- Cast Metal Partial Dentures: The most common type because of its strength, durability and longevity. The core of this denture is metal, but the outward facing parts of these dentures are made to appear like real teeth and gums through the use of acrylic and porcelain.
- Flexible Partial Dentures: These dentures use a flexible nylon material instead of metal and acrylic for the base. They are not as strong and durable as cast metal partial dentures, but they are more flexible and comfortable and have a more realistic appearance than cast metal dentures. They are perfect for those who are allergic to acrylic, and value comfort over durability.

How long do partial dentures last?
Partial dentures should be replaced every 5 to 7 years. This is due to changes that take place in the gums and surrounding tooth and bone structure over the lifespan of the partial dentures. These changes will lead to the partial dentures not fitting as well as they once did. This reason, combined with the general wear and tear on the dentures is why partial dentures should be replaced every 5 to 7 years.
