Dental Implants in Ottawa
What is a Dental Implant?
Dental implants are long-lasting tooth root replacements that oral surgeons implant into the jawbone to simulate the root of a pre-existing tooth. Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason.
Types of Dental Implants
There are different types of dental implants that may be suitable for you. Our partner periodontist will work with you to explain which type of the implant is most suitable for you. Generally, there are two types of dental implants that you can get:
- Endosteal (in the bone) – This type of implant involves screws, cylinders or blades placed surgically into the jawbone.
- Subperiosteal (on the bone)- This type of an implant involves placing implants on top of the jaw.
For more information on which type of dental implant is most suitable for your specific needs, our partner periodontist will be happy to discuss in more detail. Our oral surgeon can also explain the cost of dental implants, as well as cost of full mouth dental implants or simply a few implants. The ideal candidate for a dental implant is usually in good general and oral health. Adequate bone in your jaw is also needed to support the implant, and the best candidates have healthy gum tissues that are free of periodontal disease. Reviews show that dental implants are the best solution to missing teeth providing optimal eating, smiling and longevity.
As a result, depending on your specific condition and the type of implant chosen, your periodontist will create a treatment plan tailored to meet your needs. Dental implants can also replace a single tooth, several teeth or all of your teeth. When dental implants are used to replace all of your missing teeth, an implant supported denture is crafted by our denturist to create a beautiful smile for you.
