Missing some Teeth? We Can Help!

Missing several or all of your teeth can make and eating and smiling difficult. Unfortunately, it is common for our teeth gradually deteriorate as we become older. Brittleness, cracking and chipping are all signs of ageing teeth. For some individuals, gum disease may also lead to tooth loss. Finding a solution that is the right fit for you involves a number of considerations and our denturist, Caner Karaceper, can help you understand all the factors involved.

Here, at Smile Denture and Implant Clinic in Ottawa, we are happy to offer you a number of solutions for missing teeth. When there are more than just one or two teeth missing, our denturist will suggest a denture. This is to maintain normal bite and speech, and a normal, healthy appearance of the upper and lower jaws.

What is a denture?

Denture is a type of a prosthesis that is worn to replace missing teeth. Modern technology has allowed for advanced fabrication of dentures that look and feel like the natural teeth. There are various types of dentures available today, namely: complete or full, partial, immediate and overdenture.

Full Denture

When all teeth are missing in either the upper or lower jaw, or both, a full denture is made to replace the missing teeth. This type of a denture is also commonly known as a complete denture. An upper denture features a plate, which covers the roof of your mouth. The lower denture has a horseshoe shape and rests securely on the gum and bone tissue. Full denture will have a full set of teeth to restore your natural smile and bite functionality and can be customized to suit your preferences.

Partial Denture

Partial dentures fill the space created by just a few missing teeth. As a result, partials are a great solution if you are missing some teeth because the denture fills the gaps in your smile and helps make talking and eating easier. Partial dentures have replacement teeth fixed to an acrylic base. This acrylic base is then matched to the colour of your gums for a completely natural look. Partial dentures often have a clasp that attaches to your natural teeth to secure denture in place.

Immediate Denture

An immediate denture is a complete or partial denture that is inserted on the same day, immediately following the removal of natural teeth. This type of denture is very common for our patients undergoing dental implant treatments. It will protect the tissue and reduce bleeding after tooth extraction. Moreover, it will allow you to establish speech patters early. Most of all, you can avoid being without teeth in public for an extended period of time.

An overdenture is a full or partial denture that is modified to attach to dental implants. Overdenture can either be tooth or implant supported. Dental surgeon inserts two or more implants in place of missing teeth. After the implants have healed, the denturist will prepare a denture that will clip onto the implants. The most significant benefit is that dental implants will significantly reduce the destructive resorptive bone-loss process.
